After my own life long battles with Social Anxiety and Depression, having the misfortune of seeing some close friends tackle their own battles and then taking a look at the worrying national statistics, I soon realized there was a need to get people talking about the importance of our mental well-being. And so, The Mental Adventures Series was born, a decade of seemingly impossible adventures dedicated to promoting positive mental well-being. Each year is a different challenge, carefully designed to be a physical illustration of the mental struggles we see in life, and how we can overcome them.Through a combination of these mental adventures and the 'Overcoming Your Impossible' mentoring program and community, I'm hoping to demonstrate that no matter how tough life can get, no matter how bumpy the road ahead looks or how impossible life seems, by breaking things down into small achievable chunks and not getting overwhelmed with the big picture, you can overcome some of the most overwhelming and impossible situations life can throw at you.

Statistics say 1 in 5 Kiwis will suffer from some sort of mental illness at some point in our lives.
They also show that New Zealand, the land of endless beauty, boundless opportunity and relative peace, has one of the highest rates of suicide in the OECD.
Even scarier is the fact that the population group with the highest rates, is our youth, between the ages of 15 and 24.
This worries me considerably, and engages me personally, as this was the age group that I suffered the most in.
Although I'm aiming to raise awareness, spark conversation and inspire hope to all kiwis through the mental adventure series, it's specifically my mission to impact our youth, and within the next ten years dramatically help reduce the suicide rates within this age bracket.
I'll be looking at doing this through engaging story and message telling on social media, live staged community events, as well as developing the 'Overcome Your Impossible' adventure based mentorship program, where I'll be mentoring our youth through their own mental adventures, helping them to realize their own mental strengths, capabilities and resilience. Hopefully leaving them confident within their-selves and their capability to overcome the toughest of situations that life presents them.
